California - Cody - was a great person...who many of us have had contact with over the years.  This thread is designed for everyone to write their thoughts on our great loss.  In this thread you can leave your condolences for the family, your praise of Cody's amazing codes, or just talk about your encounters with California - the patient teacher, avid debater, and caring friend.

His unique coding skills helped many an idiot get their forum off the ground. If it weren't for Cali, I'd have probably never taken up graphics design. I'd probably still just be spending my entire day playing Counter Strike with nothing else to do.

This is horrible.  Absolutely tragic.  I don't really know what else to say.  I remember when I first met him on ZD.  He was one of the greatest coders I knew and he never failed to help someone.  He was dedicated to what he did and always spared time to make sure whoever he was helping got helped.  I'm tearing up over this and I barely knew him.  He just had that sort of effect on people.

My best wishes go out to his family.  I know this can't be easy...

Man, i just cant believe this is real. I understand that you guys arent sick enough to make a joke about this, but its just so surreal, something that seems like it cant happen, especially not yet.
I never spoke to cali properly, the only things i spoke to him about was codes or graphics, so i dont know him in the slightest. I mean, i also never even saw proper threads of his in general talk, cos i dont go in here.
This, for me, someone who has never properly spoken to cali, has sadden me dearly.
Im lost for words, and that isnt something that happens with me. Im sorry, i am rambling, but i really dont know what to say, other than he is and always will be a great guy.
I hope he can rest in peace, cos that dude deserves it.

Now, i will be honest, i'm not one to get emotional over a death of someone i dont know, especially someone who ive not talked to, but this has actually really saddened me..

I wish i could have gotten to know him better. Sorry i didnt man..
Best wishes to his family, who must be really great people to have brought a great person like cali up and into this world..

He was Truly a "Coding God", i mean, his codes were freakin' cool & awesome!!!!

Damn. I'm crying right now and I don't think I can stop. It's so sad. I really wish I knew him. It isn't easy losing someone and I can't imagine how his family is dealing with it now. I've lost many of my relatives, and am about to lose my grandfather too. It was very hard for me and I know that some of you are feeling the same way.

Even though we never knew each other, Cali has taught me a lot of things. He taught me the difference between HTML tags in IE and Firefox so that I could make a RegExp check that is compatible with both browsers. He corrected my mistakes during my attempt to add a row in the info center. And when I gave up, he just did it for me. I learned a lot from him.

I asked him for a lesson of DOM. He said that DOM was really hard to learn at my level and gave me a lesson on insertRow and insertCell instead. It came in handy and I still use it today. I have a lot to thank Cody for, but I just wish I could do it again. I know we will all miss him. I miss him too even though I never knew him.

Its a shame I joined too late to know him well. I've seen some of his codes and they are pure genius. he will never be forgotten.

I am in teers since seeing this. Scorpian showed me it on msn. Cali you were a great person, but one I never spoke a word to outside of SoCal. I wish I would have now. I'm really lost at words here. Caught up in the moment. I could have typed my memorial better for you if I would have done it tomorrow, but I just couldn't. The few times I did speak to you you seemed like a very happy person. Strict at times, but only when you had to be. I don't want to bore the people reading this so Im going to cut it short. Good bye California, May you forever rest in peace.

I cant say I knew cali all that well, I taked to him through PMs a few times but never really got to know him, despite that he still influenced me greatly, his work on socal and his help on ZD inspired me to become a coder, he himself made me strive to try to one day be as good as him, I really wish I knew him and I feel so bad for not getting to know him better and I wish his family the best, I cnat begin to express how sorry and sad I am...

Rest In Piece Cody...You will be greatly and sorly missed...
